Bhopal : President Smt. Draupadi Murmu has said that understanding the cause of suffering of humanity and showing the way to remove that suffering is the specialty of Eastern humanism, which has become more important in this era. The concept of Dharma-Dhamma has been the basic voice of Indian consciousness. Our tradition says, that which sustains all, is Dharma. The entire humanity rests on the foundation stone of religion. Development of individual and society with the spirit of friendship, compassion and non-violence, free from attachment and hatred, has been the main message of Eastern humanism. Personal conduct and social order based on morality is the practical form of Eastern humanism. It has been considered the duty of every person to preserve and strengthen this system based on morality. In our tradition of Dharma-Dhamma, the prayer of ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhin,’ has been a part of our life, it is the essence of Eastern humanism and also the greatest need of this era. This conference is a meaningful effort towards fulfilling a great need of humanity. It is our wish that the entire global community should be benefitted by Eastern humanism. President Smt. Draupadi Murmu Kushabhau Thackeray was addressing the inaugural programme of the 7th International Dharma-Dhamma Conference at Bhopal.

President Smt. Murmu lauded the state government, Sanchi University and India Foundation for organizing the Dharma-Dhamma conference. Remembering the revered Shri Kushabhau Thackeray, the President said that this auditorium has been named after Shri Thackeray. The memory of Thackeray ji, who presented an example of selfless and complete dedication for public service, in accordance with the ideals of Dharma-Dhamma, connects everyone with morality, religion and service.
Our national symbols clearly show the spirit of Dharma-Dhamma
President Smt. Murmu said that, since ancient times, religion has a central place in the tradition of our country in social system and political activities. The deep impact of Dharma-Dhamma is clearly visible on the democratic system we adopted after independence. This is clearly reflected in our national symbols. Representatives from various countries are participating in the International Dharma-Dhamma Conference, which symbolizes the global appeal of the idea ofDharma-Dhamma.
Dharma-Dhamma conference will promote harmony
Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that the validity of our Indian philosophy lies in the belief that the world belongs to all. There is no need for war. Peace, love and trust towards each other are necessary for the welfare of humanity. The Governor said that the age-old tradition of our country believes in world peace and welfare of mankind and promotes it. The Buddhist approach to the ethical and practical realm is also important for the well-being of mankind. It is the need of the hour to think about the centuries-old tradition of Indian cultural and civilizational interconnections with a new perspective in the changing times and perspective for building a prosperous society, nation and the world. In the global scenario, the ways to save humanity from the adverse effects of extremism, expansionism, climate change, will be found only in the thinking of Indian knowledge and sages. He said that mutual exchange of ideas between ancient civilizations through Dharma-Dhamma would promote harmony. Establishment of Sanchi University is a matter of fortune for the state - CM Shri Chouhan
Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the establishment of Sanchi University is a matter of fortune for the state. Here opportunities will be created to study Indian knowledge and Buddhist philosophy. The basic thinking of Eastern humanism is that the same consciousness exists in all matter and living beings, the whole earth is one family. In our country the concept of live and let live and the idea of "Victory of Dharma-Destruction of Adharma, May there be harmony among living beings and welfare of the world" prevails everywhere. Animals, birds, rivers, trees and mountains have also been worshipped in Indian culture. This is clearly reflected in the concept of Dashavatar. In the Indian tradition, the whole earth has been considered as one family.
It is essential to develop compassion and respect for all living beings and inner peace and a sense of dispassion
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the first principle of Dharma and Dhamma is to treat all living beings with kindness and respect, the second principle emphasises on knowledge and understanding. In the third principle, the need to develop inner peace and dispassion has been formulated. This is a gathering of scholars, there will be serious discussions on different topics in the conference. The conclusions that emerge from contemplation will prove to be helpful in leading the world on the path of eternal peace. Lord Gautam Buddha has considered peace not war, love not hatred, coordination not struggle, friendship not enmity as necessary in life. This is the path which will guide the humanity burning in the fire of materialism to the path of eternal peace. Therefore, definitely the Dhamma-Dharma conference will prove useful for the world.
India is the land of light, knowledge and learning
Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj, Treasurer of Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, said that India is the land of light, knowledge and learning. We have not attacked anyone, we have welcomed all views and beliefs. Dhamma and Dharma are the centres of hope for the future world. The light emanating from here will pave the way for the welfare of humanity. In the beginning, Dr. Neerja Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of Sanchi University, gave information regarding the purpose of the conference and upcoming programmes.
President Smt. Murmu inaugurated the conference in the presence of Governor Shri Patel, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan. The tune of the National Anthem was played by the police band. There was also a visual presentation of Sanchi University's song. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan presented Angavastram, memento, picture of Shankaracharya ji and a book on Ekatm Dham to the President Smt. Murmu. Prof. SR Bhatt, Co-Chair of the Organising Committee, presented the memento and Angavastram to the Governor Shri Patel. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was presented a memento by Dr. Neerja Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of Sanchi Buddhist University.
President released the book "The Panorama of Indian Philosophers and Thinkers"
President Smt. Murmu released the book "The Panorama of Indian Philosophers and Thinkers" written by Prof. SR Bhatt. Ministers from 5 countries, scholars, thinkers and researchers from 15 countries are participating in the conference on the topic "Theory of Humanism in the New Age" at Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium. This conference, which provides a platform to the global views of Dharma-Dhamma, will continue till March 5.
Ministers of Bhutan and Sri Lanka and Deputy Governor of Indonesia attended the inaugural session
State Culture Minister Sushri Usha Thakur, Bhutan's Home and Cultural Affairs Minister Shri Ugyen Dorji, Sri Lanka's Culture and Religious Affairs Minister Shri Vidura Wickremanayake, Sri Lanka's Prof. Rahul Anunayak Thera, Indonesia's Deputy Governor Prof. Dr. IR Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati were present. Culture ministers from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan along with India are participating in the 7th International Dharma-Dhamma Conference, which continues till March 5, to discuss cultural harmony and other topics in different countries. Scholars and researchers from UK, USA, France, Spain, Mauritius, South Korea, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Bhutan are also participating in the conference.
