Wildlife and Life Science Department of Bhaktakavi Narsingh Mehta University jointly organized on 10th August "World Lion Day 2024" celebrations under the chairmanship of University Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Chetan Trivedi.
Under the initiative of Center of Excellence for Wildlife and Conservation and Department of Life Sciences Bhakti Kavi Narsingh Mehta University, the students studying in the university organized a photo exhibition, poster exhibition to celebrate Lion Day enthusiastically. Students also participated in a short film competition.
Bhakta Kavi Narsingh Mehta University Chancellor Prof. Chetan Trivedi talking about the migration of the lion, the habit of the lion and the health of the lion, the culture of the lion said that the lion is not only a predator but has already occupied its territory up to the area of Bhavnagar and Barda. At that time many changes are also seen in his life, the lion's habit, relationship with humans and changes in the lion's behavior and health goals have become exploratory things in the life of the lion.
In this program, a short film competition was also organized especially on Lion, in which applications were invited from filmmakers, from which the best film was selected. The selected top 3 short films were screened through a projector in the presence of Nishith Dharaiya, director of CWCS Junagadh and all. Among these films, "The Last Home of Asiatic Lions" has been selected first. This short film was made by Wildlife Filmmakers Alfez Bhatti, Irshad Bhatti, Kishan Upadhyay, Munir Jikani, Salim Bloch, Nishant Makwana, Kishan Chauhan and Mitesh Dayani from Junagadh. The film explores the origin of lion, hunting by British officers and The king's of that time, the difference between Asiatic Lions and African Lions, Gir National Park, the ban on lion hunting by the king's of Junagadh and the protection of lions by the Forest Department. This short film directed by Irshad Bhatti and Alfez Bhatti, made on the basis of efforts, was awarded the award for the BEST SHORT FILM.
