For 36 years, he devoted himself to the power sector, evolving from a young project engineer to a leader at the helm of various corporate departments. His debut book written after his retirement in 2022, A Sanguine Tale: Unfolding the Life of a Project Engineer, offers an intimate glimpse into this journey—a narrative born from the trials and triumphs faced in some of the country’s remotest regions. There, where roads and communication were scarce and shortage of trained manpower and machinery was a constant hurdle , Rajat’s work demanded more than technical expertise; it required a spirit of leadership and resilience. He draws readers into these experiences faced during his time in projects a few decades ago, blending technical insight with the profound reflections of a life dedicated to progress. His work was recognized internationally with a LEAD International Fellowship, underscoring his commitment to balancing progress with ecological respect. Later, during his tenure at the Doyang Hydro Electric Project, Rajat constructed a bridge over the reservoir, bringing crucial connectivity to nearby villages and easing lives. His reforestation projects in the area reflect a legacy of green spaces that honour the landscapes and communities they serve.

Known for his enthusiasm for sports, he launched a major football tournament at Kopili to encourage youth athleticism, fostering teamwork and discipline. In Doyang, he organised a friendly cricket match between Assam and Nagaland, bridging cultural divides through a shared love of competition.
